Wedged up against the San Gabriel Mountains, Altadena early on attracted hikers and outdoor enthusiasts as mountain tourism took off in the late 1800’s. The Mt. Lowe Railway started in the neighborhood and took passengers nearly seven miles up to a resort, dance hall and casino. Well the casino is long gone, but not the desire to call Altadena home.
